DUTIES:

The incumbent of this position serves as the personal assistant to the Deputy Assistant Administrator within the Bureau for Global Health (GH), which includes formal subordinate Divisions. Serves as the principal clerical and administrative support for the Deputy Assistant Administrator for the GH Bureau. Independently schedules appointments for the Deputy Assistant Administrator -- coordinates meetings, and/or schedules conferences. Coordinates with the Secretary to the Assistant Administrator on appointment, meeting, and/or conference schedules.

Processes incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication. Performs the following types of duties: edits letters, composes letters and reports, reviews correspondence for accuracy and completeness, prepares public presentation outlines, and develops standard or form letters and replies to inquiries.

Receives, schedules, refers, and contacts members of the Bureau staff, other agency personnel, and persons outside the agency -- ranging from other government agencies to the general public.

Performs office automation duties using such software applications as electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendars, spreadsheets, databases, and/or graphics.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Ability to communicate orally in performing clerical and technical work.

Ability to maintain appointments, calendars, and schedules.

Knowledge of agency administrative support procedures such as those established for obtaining and monitoring the use of services, supplies, equipment, or personnel.

Ability to communicate in writing.

Ability to coordinate administrative and clerical processes in an office in order to schedule work and meet deadlines.

MINIMUM FEDERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

A candidate must have had one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 level. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of the position as described above, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.

Entrance on duty is contingent upon completion of a pre-employment background investigation. Eligible applicants will be asked to submit forms required for a security clearance and suitability determination for appointment to the Foreign Service. This appointment requires completion of a one-year probationary period. During this time period, employee's conduct and performance will be monitored in order to determine if employee will be retained.

BASIS OF RATING: Qualified applicants receive a score of 70 to 100 before veteran's preference points are applied (if applicable).
